March 16, 2023 CMRC Meeting Takeaways

 General Housing Presentation Comments

  • The Housing presentation was very informative. CMRC members expressed appreciation gaining better understanding about the Coalition for Rochester Area Housing.
    • More info about First Homes
    • LINK to Video recording of March 8, 2023 Housing Alliance Meeting Housing: Financial and Policy Tool Forecasting Analysis - Mary Tingerthal
  • Comments and questions from meeting attendees:
    • BIPOC lived experience: Achieving certain levels of our area's Average Medium Income (AMI) grid (slide 5 of housing presentation) often requires income earners to work multiple jobs thus impacting household's housing assistance qualification. Is there another way to take into account work/life balance?
    • Homeownership is a key need from CERT's constituents who often pay rents higher than mortgages; but they are unable to get into homeownership for a variety reasons.
    • What about reducing property tax for qualified BIPOC groups to assist home ownership?
    • Islamic compliant interest-free financing resources?
    • CMRC SC can play a part in bridging communication and knowledge gap between Housing Alliance and BIPOC constituents
    • There were also a number of general comments and questions raised  that the BIPOC co-design report has addressed as noted in the following

Comments raised at CMRC that have co-design cross-referencing

  • Financial/Lending concerns: Page 9 covers things like lender assists,
  • Realtors role: Page 10
  • Accountability: Page 11 CMRC can play a role in interlocking with the Prepare, Purchase Process steps: eg: home-ownership mentor network
  • BIPOC representation: Page 13 shows actionable items that CMRC and its cohorts can check into
  • Who were the co-designers: Page 14.
